House 1: Handiness

Welcome to this new challenge, The Household Skills Project. This project is hosted here created by Hazelnut and it's a very large one because it tries to explore all what the game has to offer, it's multigenerational, in my case it will last more than twenty generation.

To quote the introduction in the challenge page:

"The aim is to explore the game - over the generations, to live in every town, max every skill and every career and complete every LTW."

This is done by unlocking one skill per house, sometimes two skills are permitted. Once unlocked, that skill is free to be used in future houses, but no sim can learn an unlocked skill.

This means that the founder can only learn one skill and has to complete its related challenges before moving to the new house. Hence the name of the challenge.

I attempted this project before but failed do to negligence and a glitched career. If you're interested this is the link but it is not necessary to read it to enjoy this story. The only thing of importance is that my founder is the third gen heir of the previous attempt.

This first house skill is Handiness.

This new attempt will be carried out by the Skiillo family again, Cooper was the third gen in my previous project, son of Beatrice Skiillo and Twinbrook’s social worker Al Lyffe.

Cooper arrived in Riverview to accomplish what his mother couldn’t, being a Firefighter Super Hero. His traits are Brave, Daredevil, Handy, Neurotic, Technophobe to help with his Lifetime Wish and the skill of this house.

He spent the first day in the library reading about handiness and then made good use of the 1000 simoleons that he started the challenge with, buying and reselling at the consignment store.

At the end of the day he used the fire station’s office as his bedroom.

The rest of the days passed in a breeze, Cooper began to make good progress in his career, luckily this time this profession worked much better, although he had some emergencies canceled as is customary with this career, it’s nothing comparable to the number of times that happened to Beatrice in the previous attempt.

The only negative for now is that the game’s giving more building’s emergencies than fires in houses, so Cooper’s Lifetime Wish is going slowly.

When he wasn’t dealing with emergencies, he put to good use his technophobe trait to sabotage the TV in the Fire Station.

But not everything was work for Cooper, he also had some fun with his coworker, or rather they had fun with him.

By the start of the third week, he upgraded everything in the Fire Station but needed one more to complete the Tinkerer challenge, so I sent him home when I remembered that the handiness skill allows to change the doorbell sound. What I didn’t remember is if it counted as upgrade or not, luckily it did. First challenge completed.

The next day, he had an opportunity to repair a laptop and with that he completed the Electrical challenge and maxed the skill. Now what Cooper needed was two more toilets to be clogged and a couple of lifetime points to buy the Inheritance reward, he already had Discount Dinner as his first one.

Regarding the search for a wife, I had a couple of npc in mind but my first option was the burglar Julie Singer. My strategy for meeting her was to send Cooper home to sleep a couple of times a week hopping she’d broke in his house but no such luck.

In the end all the effort was in vain, because the way Cooper met Julie was more natural. One day she was standing at the gym entrance doing nothing, I immediately sent Cooper there to meet her.

They hit it off and that same evening they had a date at the bistro.

Although it didn’t help with the npc situation, sending him home did help to complete the Plumber challenge when the toilet and the shower broke on the same night. Supermax completed.

By Friday of that same week, Cooper had almost all the requirements met, he only needed a couple of points to buy the Inheritance reward and with that money become the owner of the town diner. Luckily, while he was attending an emergency, a wish to save the life of the trapped sim appeared and gave him the needed points. So I bought the reward and sent him to buy Hogan’s Deep Fried Diner.

Before moving to his new house, I made him posse before his handiness certificate.

His career and Lifetime Wish are to be completed in the next house.
